Sexuality...human capacity for love
Call me naive or shallow, maybe both, but I used to think of sexuality as physical arousal and orgasm. My current reading affords a new perspective to sexuality - like most of the books I have read, the reading is a cumulative affair. What comes along reading retrospectively transforms my original understanding, revises beliefs and opens up a new horizon which is confirmed...
I digress.
Sexuality is our capacity for love. Visceral to a person's sexuality is the capacity to feel affection and to get emotionally close for another person, to be passionately committed to him or her. Being in love is to be struck by the physical and inner beauty of another and be drawn out of ourselves. I'm not saying that people can live without having sex nor that sex acts are a necessary part of every human love. It is only to say that people who are uncomfortable with their sexuality might be handicapped in their dealings with other people, because they are hiding from their own selves.
